Rest In Peace

The most horrible thing has happened. On February 26th 2009, ducky's ipod passed away when he drowned in a washing machine then cooked in the dryer. he lived a wonderful life serving his friends with endless entertainment at partys and provided the perfect dance music with his signature cha cha slide. His owner Cristian says he is shocked at his passing, but knows he's in a better place. Ducky's I pod will be sorely missed among his peers, but his life served as an example that all i pods should live by. Its been fun, Rest In Peace my friend

Life in a Fish Bowl

i thought it time to blog about something interesting and worth commenting about soo...i thought I'd blog about the life of a pastor kid, or for those of you up on all the church slang, PK for short.

If there is one phrase that would sum up the life of a PK its this, Life in a fish bowl! The pastor's family really does live life in a fish bowl for the whole world to see. we are the fish and the church is our spectators, to watch us swim, eat, sleep (if fish even sleep!) this isn't soo bad at first, you get soo much attention that its actually fun! but i soon learned that the life of a pk isn't all about perks.

The life comes with a title (PK) and people have expectations of you as the "pastor kid" that you have to live up to. God forbid i get into an argument or something in church. People expect you to be perfect. I can't count the number of times I'd get into an argument or make noises during the sermon. Then have grown adults tell me how disappointed they are with me when their own children were in on the action! The expectations are just so high that its impossible to please people at times. That's another thing, pleasing people. Allot of times i have to please people that i really can't stand or pretend to like people for the sake of the church. As the pastor's family, you can't really afford to make waves in the church.

Anything we do is a reflection of my father. Now every child has that, but its a little more serious when your father is a pastor! I can't count the number of times that i wanted to do something but couldn't cause i might make my father and his position look bad. Like dying my hair blue! but that's really not that big of a deal. I think the hardest thing is getting too close to church members. See church members have a tendency to come and go, but the pastor and his family will always be at that church for as long as God wants that church to exist. Needless to say, I have seen some good friends come and leave the church.

Also another thing is to be a positive role model for the youngsters in the church. This isn't hard for me really. See i grew up in a church where the teens and younger kids really didn't "mix". The older youth just didn't chill with little kids. Instead they kicked us out of the youth room and locked the doors. This for some reason has really stuck in my mind as i grew older. I always think about that verse where Jesus says let the little children come to me, and thats somthing that i really try to emulate. I really looked up to the teens in my church and i thought they were soo cool! So you can expect all the disapointment that i got when ever they kicked us out or paid little or no attention! I try really hard to be there for the younger kids in the church, to show em how to do stuff like play the drums or get them off some level in a video game, to give a fist bump and tell em how cool they are.

So at the end of the day, i wouldn't trade my life for anything else. Yes its tough sometimes but before i go to bed at night, i know that i'm doing what God wants me to do. He sent me here for a reason and everyday i try to acomplish my missions and live up to the tiltle. The title of the Pastor Kid. I hope that every sunday, when i walk into that church, i'm Gods best PK and work to further grow his kingdom.
